Wow! The year is only two weeks old and already it’s gotten off to an amazing start for Founding Farmers. This week, we’re proud to say, we’ve made two top 10 lists in the foodie blogosphere — and for different reasons. First, Food Republic put us on its “Power Ranking” list of 10 sustainable restaurants, noting just a few of our many eco-friendly design features. Then, Gourmet magazine and BlogHer named us among the 10 healthiest restaurants in the nation, with blogger Jessica of JessRuns mentioning our commitment to local and family farm ingredients.
We’re looking forward to the time when we can get on the road ourselves and trying out the other dining spots named in these two lists — they all sound amazing. Congratulations to everyone for their successful focus on sustainable food service, from ingredient sourcing to restaurant design.

Madeline Twomey and Juliette Dallas-Feeney sat with Dan Simons recently to talk about going green in the restaurant business. The George Washington University students are part of a reporting class that uses advanced multimedia platforms to create stories about sustainability and going green. The two spent some time in the restaurant filming the interiors, our recycling and composting separation system, our in-house water superfiltration system, and of course, spent some time checking out our food! Check out the video, Serving Up a Platter of Green, after the break. Great job Madeline and Juliette!

FF Mixologist Josh Tugjnyam
On Labor Day Monday (9.07) Founding Farmers Mixologist Josh Tugjnyam appeared on the WUSA9 morning show and prepared the official cocktail of Brazil – the caipirinha – in celebration of Brazilian Independence Day. FF Chief Mixologist Jon Arroyo is the DC Brand Ambassador for Cabana Cachaça the upscale double distilled Brazilian Rum that is the key ingredient in the caipirinha. Jon was away on holiday, so Josh stepped in to shake up some great cocktails. See the video for yourself, and the food demo with Farmers & Fishers Sous Chef Mario Pineda, who prepared the very popular Heritage Truck-style Fish Tacos. No holidays for busy restaurants!

On July 29 a group architects and designers gathered with hosts Lucive Lighting at the restaurant to check out the space (and the lighting design!) and they had a great time. Our community tables are perfect for groups of up to 12 and if you’re interested in arranging a special dinner or reception for a larger group, we’re happy to accommodate. See the pics and information from DC design Blog. We appreciate the support of our award-winning design and love to share it!
