Pleasures of the Table Visits Founding Farmers

Pleasures of the Table blogger David Smelson noticed our rankings in the Washintonian’s Reader Reviews (thanks to David for not thinking we are overrated!) and decided to stop by to see for himself.  He has some great photos and even noticed that we do, in fact, make our own ginger ale. Come back soon, David, and try out Chef Melanie’s desserts!

Founding Farmers has Fans on “Bones”

Dr. Temperance Bones

Dr. 'Bones' Brennan

A few weeks ago we heard from a number of friends and guests that Founding Farmers had been mentioned on the TV show “Bones.”  Well, we searched the net and went to the “Bones” web site and could only find clips and previews of an episode called “A Night at the Bones Museum.”  Well, since the show is set in DC, and we’ve got more museums with bones than any other city in the world, of course Dr. Temperance ‘Bones’ Brennan would be on a date at one of DC’s hottest restaurants!   We were thrilled.

The truth is that they didn’t actually film at the restaurant, and they didn’t actually say “Founding Farmers”, but they said “Founding Fathers,” which is pretty close – and if anyone that watched it thinks it was our restaurant, we don’t mind!   Catch the “Founding Farmers” Bones episode online, and then come down to the restaurant and see the real thing!

Founding Farmers in Dining Green Video

Dan Simons on PlanetForwardGWUMadeline Twomey and Juliette Dallas-Feeney sat with Dan Simons recently to talk about going green in the restaurant business. The George Washington University students are part of a reporting class that uses advanced multimedia platforms to create stories about sustainability and going green. The two spent some time in the restaurant filming the interiors, our recycling and composting separation system, our in-house water superfiltration system, and of course, spent some time checking out our food!   Check out the video, Serving Up a Platter of Green, after the break.   Great job Madeline and Juliette!

FF Mixologist Josh Tugjnuam

FF Mixologist Josh Tugjnyam

On Labor Day Monday (9.07) Founding Farmers Mixologist Josh Tugjnyam appeared on the WUSA9 morning show and prepared the official cocktail of Brazil – the caipirinha – in celebration of Brazilian Independence Day.   FF Chief Mixologist Jon Arroyo is the DC Brand Ambassador for Cabana Cachaça the upscale double distilled Brazilian Rum that is the key ingredient in the caipirinha.  Jon was away on holiday, so Josh stepped in to shake up some great cocktails.   See the video for yourself, and the food demo with Farmers & Fishers Sous Chef Mario Pineda, who prepared the very popular Heritage Truck-style Fish Tacos. No holidays for busy restaurants!

Jon Arroyo Named Cabana Cachaça Brand Ambassador

Cabana Cachaca

Cabana Cachaca

Cheers to Farmers & Fishers Chief Mixologist, Jon Arroyo, for being named the Washington, DC region Brand Ambassador for Cabana Cachaça, the finest, purest cachaça in the market today.   As the signature spirit of Brazil, cachaca is coming into its own in the US, not only as a fine rum product, but as a very smooth and versatile elixir, authentic to the core.

At Founding Farmers and at our sister restaurant Farmers & Fishers, Cabana is used to make premium caipirinhas, and a few other special cocktails from Jon’s inspired mixology.  Cabana is handcrafted in small batches, double-distilled in copper pot sills and mellowed for up to nine months in Brasilian jequitiba rosa wood barrels.  Learn more and see how the Brasilians like to live!

Tommy Hilfiger’s Guide to DC

a clip from Tommy's guide

a clip from Tommy's guide

Huh very cool….and guess which original LEED Gold, hip and casual farm-fed restaurant was included on his very exclusive list of top places to eat in DC?  That’s right…Founding Farmers!

We’re so proud to be in this very distinctive group of dining establishments – some tried and true, some more classically DC than others, and still others like us, the new kids on the block that are turning heads!   Thanks Tommy!
